MANY VOICES MERGING VISIONS
2006
This public art project was commissioned by the City of Sydney as part of consultations inviting community members to participate in the upgrade of Glebe Point Road, the main thoroughfare. The public works plan includes the provision of temporary and permanent public artworks.

Many Voices/Merging Visions developed out of two community initiatives. The first was a series of workshops held at the Glebe Youth Service. Workshop Co-ordinator, Tamara Killick photographed members at work on their art projects. Social documentary photographer, Roslyn Sharpe, was then commissioned to produce a suite of portraits from the lively mix of residents in the village. From these sources I selected of a range of images to be enlarged and installed on the sides of domestic and commercial buildings along Glebe Point Road.

Many Voices/Merging Visions also formed part of the City of Sydney’s annual Art and About event, which features a festival of public art in several of the city’s suburbs.

A selection of images from the project is shown above.
